Cosplay Photo Op Day Results.

Cosplay Photo Op Day has come and gone. On November 12th, we held our 1st Annual “Cosplay Photo Op Day” at the studio. We welcomed people to come on down and get studio quality photos of them in their costumes for a fraction of the cost of a basic portrait session. We figured it would be a nice way to follow, and celebrate Halloween. We got some pretty cool shots, and had a great time!

Next year, we will aim for mid to late October to hold our 2nd Annual “Cosplay Photo Op Day,” so it is more in the spirit of Halloween. Here are some of the shots from the event:

Studio Session & Composite Photography

Ultimately, the definition of composite photography is “the merging of two photographs in order to create one.” My composites, in this set of photos, combine textures, or backdrop elements that are not in the original photo. Using pencils and paint brushes as my artistic medium of choice (years ago,) I wanted to try and bring a dimension of that “artistry” to my photos. I wanted to create something that looks like a photo, but also looks like it might be a painting.

Personally, I enjoy doing these composites. It is quite a process compared to shooting and carrying out basic photo processing. However, I feel that the time spent on each photo, which can take anywhere from 2-6 hours depending on the complexity of the photo, is well worth the time. The results are truly unique, and make for quite the conversation piece in your home.

This was also my first session in the new studio. It was nice being in a spacious environment with the ability to move my lights around freely and not be restricted by my dining room walls.

2012 Dance Photos

Next year I will be photographing individual dance photos for Cheryl’s School of Dance here in Melrose. I have done the dance photos for Cheryl’s school in the past, but this time around I want to offer something a little more unique in addition to your basic 5×7′s, or 8×10 photos.

This time around I took some time to design a collage style 8×10 layout. It will feature a photo of the student, along with two detail shots. I have received some positive response to the design, and am pretty excited to offer these to clients next year.

Funny Face Day!

Yesterday I had some fun with my two oldest. They are absolutely tired of me photographing “serious” poses of them, and I thought that it would be fun to photograph them making some silly faces. One of the easiest photo sessions EVER! Seriously, I never met a kid, at a photo session, who didn’t look like they wanted to break out into a funny face pose. The kids loved it.

I might have a “funny face day” at the studio one of these days. I think that it would be a lot of fun, and give parents some unforgettable photos.

Cosplay Photo Op – Saturday 11/12/11

We will be booking 10 minute photo sessions for those interested in having photos taken of them in their costume(s) at 183 Grove Street, Melrose, Massachusetts 02176. Sci-Fi, horror, comic book, fantasy, period, medieval, military, any genre.

Customers will receive 4 poses (several shots of each pose,) and a disc with high-resolution images for printing, as well as web-resolution images for posting on social networks, or email.

The cost for one 10 minute session, which includes the above, is $40.00 – this also includes shipping. If you have several costumes, each additional costume, after the $40.00 session, will be $25.00 per session.

Photos will be ready and shipped within two weeks after the event.

PAYMENT: Payment is due in advance, and is required to book your slot(s,) via credit card. Once you request a time slot, an invoice will be emailed to you. Payment can be made through the invoice, via PayPal. You do not need a PayPal account to pay via invoicing. Slots will be filled on a first come, first served basis. You will be added when payment is received.

New Website On The Way

As you may have noticed, It’s been pretty quiet on the blog front. I have not been posting much lately due to the fact that I am developing a new look for the website:

My goal is to have a more traditional website feel, with a front page to navigate you to where you want to go. The blog will continue, but will feature a “photo of the Week,” and general updates and information. I am aiming for the end of October to have it fully functional.

“I’m Batman.”

I just love this shot! Although you really can’t tell, due to the intentional high shutter speed in order to black out the background, this was taken in a backstreet ally in the City of Lowell, Massachusetts. A very fitting location for the Dark knight. I don’t know about you, but I’d sure be pretty scared if I ran into this in a dark ally.
